The farm was the seat of a larger property belonging to the Order of Santiago. Until 1834 (when the Orders ceased to exist) it was the income property of the Santos Monastery in Lisbon. The farm building was the home of the Monteiro-Mor (Royal Huntsman), who was responsible for managing the property.
