This village of small, white, blue-striped houses with red doors is an increasingly popular tourist destination sought by Portuguese holidaymakers and those of various other nationalities. Largo Marquês de Pombal, the heart of Porto Covo, and the entire historic area around it is one of the wonders of Portuguese Enlightenment architecture. Its layout was inspired by the Pombaline model of downtown Lisbon, and currently has several shops and restaurants.

Porto Covo is surrounded by the most beautiful and natural beaches in the country, steep and hidden along the coast. The island of Pessegueiro is another point of interest. Its name has Latin origins, evolving from the terms pescatoriusor pescarium, since in Roman times it was a place for preparing fish, as evidenced by the remains of the salting tanks that can still be seen on the island. It has an excellent beach for windsurfingand sport fishing.

Fish dishes, seafood, cataplana and feijoada made from cowries are some of the gastronomic specialties of this region. In summer, Porto Covo is especially lively. Various sporting and cultural activities are promoted on its beaches and in the town.
